The Streets Division of the Department of Public Services for the City of Traverse City is staffed by two Administrators and 18 personnel. In the winter months crews work 3 shifts, 24 hours a day on weekdays. Crews work from 4:00 AM until 12:00 PM on weekend days and holidays. Additional personnel is called in on an "as needed" basis for plowing sanding or road hazards.During the Fall, Spring and Summer months crews work from 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM and from 11:00 PM to 7:00 AM.The Streets Division is responsible for an array of maintenance programs this includes, but is not limited to the following:


  • Snow Removal
  • Cleaning
  • Repairing
  • Maintenance
  • 27 Miles of Major Streets
    • 50 Miles of Local Streets
    • 12 Miles of State Highways
    • 30 Miles of Alleys
    • 80 Miles of Sidewalks and Bike Paths
      • 1250 Catch Basins
      • 650 Storm Manholes
      • 80 Traffic SignalsThis Division also provides:
          • Spring Clean-Up Program
          • Fall Leaf Collection and Composting
          • Mow Non-Parkland Property along City Right-Of-Ways
          • Fencing and Barricading for Festivals and Events
          • Road Closure for City Law Enforcement and City Fire
