Traverse City Police Department Traverse City, Michigan
Community Policing
The Traverse City Police Department is a Community Policing organization. The concept of Community Policing began on a trial basis in Traverse City in the early 1980’s. Today we have two Officers assigned full-time as Community Policing Officers or CPO's for short.
The City of Traverse City is separated into two Community Policing areas or Sectors: East Sector and West Sector. A Community Policing/Sector map is illustrated here for your convenience.
The Traverse City Police Officers assigned as full-time CPO's are:
Kevin Dunklow, CPO: East Sector Contact Number: 231-642-6109
Scott Maxson, CPO: West Sector Contact Number: 231-642-0851
Officer Dunklow and Officer Maxson report to Sergeant Michael Ayling who serves as the field commander for this program. If you have questions, ideas, or concerns about the Community Policing program, we encourage you to please contact Sergeant Ayling at (231) 995-5168.

In addition to Patrol responsibilities in their assigned Sector areas the CPO's participate in neighborhood association meetings, school programs, neighbor watch programs, neighborhood traffic enforcement, and other important police/citizen events as needed.
The CPO's typically work eight hour shifts; however, their schedules flex accordingly to meet our community's needs.
Our remaining Patrol Officers are assigned twelve hour Patrol shifts. These Officers provide individual attention to the entire City of Travese City, 24 hours a day, 7 days per week, 365 days per year.
The Traverse City Police Department works tirelessly to meet the needs of our community and our citizens whether it is through our Community Policing program, Patrol Division, or Investigative Services, we are here to serve and protect.
